Theatre of the Silence was founded in 2000 by a group of hearing impaired theatre artists. They have plenty of stage experience and have worked with various theatre groups in exchange activities. Theatre of the Silence believes that people, whether hearing or hearing impaired, should have equal rights to enjoy and partake in arts activities. The Company’s work embodies an alternative aesthetics based on the members’ superb body movements, thus creating theatre pieces not only for those in a world of "silence" but also for those in the world beyond.
Since its formation, Theatre of the Silence has staged "Four Dogs and A Woman", "Fifteen Strings of Cash", "The Magical World of Toys", "Untie the Boat from the Ugly Wharf", "My Red Dress", "A Journey into the World of Visual Wonders" and "The Monkey’s Paw".
In addition to local performances, TOS has toured to over 10 European, Asian and North American cities over the last 3 years. Theatre of the Silence is one of the best deaf theatres in the world and its members are outstanding cultural ambassadors of Hong Kong. |
